The Client Experience
The first step in the process involves identifying and categorizing by asset class the current inventory of each client's portfolio. In this process, we include a number of well-defined and differentiated broad-based asset classes in our customized asset allocation analyses, ranging from cash equivalents to alternative investments and private equity. This step includes in the analysis those asset classes previously positioned in the portfolios. Each portfolio is then customized for each investor. Investment portfolios are analyzed along two dimensions: efficacy and adequacy. Efficacy means creating portfolios that have the highest possible expected return for a given level of risk as defined by our discovery process with clients. Adequacy means examining the risk/return characteristics of a portfolio in light of the investor's financial objectives and risk tolerance. We consider multiple variables in this process as defined in other sections of the site.
